The lunchtime scene at Zest
We chose to start our epic 10-day KC culinary tour with lunch at Zest this afternoon -- and we're glad we came hungry. Let's start with this: for $15 a person, we got a LOT of food.
Moroccan Lamb Chili
We kicked off our lunch on this dreary day with a couple of soups -- one order of the Moroccan Lamb Chili and a wonderfully fresh cup of the Tomato Asiago Bisque. The chili was enough for a meal in itself; we stopped short of polishing off the bowl to save room for our entrees.
French Toast Grilled Cheese Sandwich
The French Toast Grilled Cheese Sandwich appeared in front of us next, peeking out from under a generous layer of gooey cheese and accompanied by a sky-high pile of golden brown french fries. The sammie was big enough for two, so if you're looking for something on the lighter side, go for the Jerk Chicken Salad with pineapple, jicama, and a coconut milk & lime vinaigrette.
Jerk Chicken Salad
Don't be shy about asking for a doggy bag, either: trust us, you're going to want to save room for dessert. We tried both sweet offerings -- an enormous slab of luscious Chocolate Cake with raspberry sauce and a piping hot, just-moist-enough Autumn Bread Pudding with bourbon creme -- and we'll confess that the only reason we stopped short of cleaning our plates had nothing to do with calories. Honestly, we had to slow ourselves down because we're planning to eat another huge, sure-to-be-excellent meal at J. Gilbert's this evening.
