The Early Reviews Are In: What You're Saying About Restaurant Week

The much-hyped Sticky Toffee Pudding at Webster House

The first weekend of Kansas City's inaugural Restaurant Week has passed -- and so far, the event has been a resounding success. We've been sharing our own experiences here on the blog, but Kansas Citians across the Internet are chatting about their fabulous meals, too.

Some of the highlights:

Blogger Chris posted a fantastic recap of his first few R-Week meals over at Blog Well Done. After dining at 75th Street Brewery, blanc burgers + bottles, Webster House, and WestChase Grille, he declares 75th Street Brewery’s Duck Confit Salad the "Best. Salad. Ever." and agrees with us that Webster House's Sticky Toffee Pudding is not to be missed.

There have been plenty of 140-character rave reviews popping up in the Twitterverse, too:

  • @IamAboutKC hit The Bristol for dinner and said the "scallops, carrot cake and service by Chico [were] all fabulous."
  • @the_glendon says the butternut squash soup at Starker's is "unbelievable" -- and posted a photo of that amazing-sounding bacon and cheese curd-stuffed burger to FoodSpotting
  • And on the other side of the plate, chef Celina Tio of Julian communicated via the @JulianKC Twitter Friday night: "GREAT, GREAT night! Great food and great guests! Thanks to all for making the first night of RW a successful one! See you soon!"

And over on Facebook...

  • Mike C. posted this photo of the Torilla Espanola (Spanish omelet of potato & onion with red pepper aioli) from his "excellent meal" at La Bodega
  • Tara H. celebrated her two-year anniversary at Trezo Vino and managed to snap a few photos of her food, including this Lobster Gnocchi with artichokes and spinach

Last but not least, be sure to browse the comments section of the Restaurant Week blog. KC diners have already posted a few meal recaps, including this one from Dawn G.:

"We had dinner last night at the American. Everything was wonderful but I recommend the pork dumpling, Campo Lindo chicken and the de-cake-struction. I also had lunch today at Cafe Sebastienne and the spinach salad with Applewood smoked bacon & poached farm egg was fabulous. We look forward to taking advanage of more great restaurants and their wonderful menus throughout the rest of the week!"

Keep up the eating, and keep on talking to us! Follow us on Twitter, join our Facebook community, and comment right here on the blog. You can even type with your mouth full -- we'll never know.

Great time Saturday at The Well in Waldo. The French Dip featured tender, peppery beef on a crusty roll dipped in either horseradish sauce or au jus...delicious. We finished our lunches watching the KU game and munching hot donut holes from a brown bag. Best donut holes ever.

We tried Westside Local Sunday night. From the second we were greeted until the time we left, we had the most enjoyable time. Our waiter was a real treat! The food was fabuolous. We had to order a starter and couldn't resist a deviled egg. All of the lacalities look great! Priced just right! It was hard not to order one of every starter. It was great! Then the Swiss chard salad with crispy fried ginger pieces, just enough to give you that refreshing lift, with fennel and sunchokes and a lemon grass vinagrette. This was outstanding! My friend had the chicken and whole wheat sage waffles! Mmmm. I had the duck 3 ways. Very good. I especially like the way the waiter described the specials. So cute! For dessert I had the bread pudding with lemon mousse. I didn't want it to end! I will definately return for the grilled cheese (made with brie and 2 other cheeses), short ribs and the lamb pot roast. This place is cozy and comfortable! I highly recommend it!

Friday's dinner at Axois was terrific! The chicken was so flavorful and the mousse was divine! It makes me wonder why I don't eat there more often...

My lady & I tried 801 chophouse for our 1st stop during rw: the service was superb as expected. From fine cuts of prime beef to the extensive wine list. As expected we upgraded everything and enjoyed the experience. We started with the lobster corn chowder followed by the 8oz filet mignon, oscar topped with 5oz of crab with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. For dessert we had mini-cupcakes and our waiter JAMISON was kind enough to bring us out a complimentary creme-brulee. We will definitely be returning a lot sooner than next years RW.
