A Charming Saturday Afternoon Lunch at Webster House

Posted on Sunday, January 24th, 2010 | 0 Comments

Among our favorite Saturday afternoon delights: shopping, eating, enjoying little pieces of KC history, and relaxing with a well-made bloody mary. Among our favorite Saturday afternoon restaurant destinations: Webster House, which gives us the opportunity to indulge in all four of those delights.

After browsing the antiques, gifts, and jewelry on the main floor of the restored 19th century schoolhouse, we headed upstairs to an English country house-esquedining room where we enjoyed....

Tomato and Basil Soup

A cup of Tomato and Basil soup -- fresh, juicy chunks of tomato with plenty of bold basil. A memorable texture and a big flavor here -- and the parmesan-mint emulsion added an extra dimension.

Savannah Style Crabcake
This baby, beautifully presented atop an endive and bacon sautée, was just the right size.

Smoked Turkey Reuben
A slightly leaner twist on the classic, this sandwich was big enough for two (this seems to be the theme of Restaurant Week) and was outfitted with fairly generous portions of sauerkraut and swiss.

Buttermilk Fried Chicken sandwich
Accompanied by caper berries and red radish, the lemon-basil mayo spread made this juicy chicken sandwich seem light.

Devil's Chocolate Cake

The sky-high slice of moist cake was chock full of not-overpoweringly-sweet chocolate -- and a bit of cherry, too.

Sticky Toffee Pudding
Get the Sticky Toffee Pudding. That is all.
