Our Final Restaurant Week Lunch at re:Verse

Posted on Sunday, January 31st, 2010 | 0 Comments

Pistachio Chevre Salad

Wishing time would go in reverse so we could do Restaurant Week over and over again, we chose re:Verse (ha) for our very last $15 lunch today.

The bright, sparkling dining room was full of early happy-hour-ers and late brunchers, but we were there to order off the Restaurant Week lunch menu for the last time this year.

Zucca Chips, Chicken Sandwiches, and Divine Desserts at NoRTH

Posted on Sunday, January 31st, 2010 | 0 Comments

On the penultimate day of the first annual Restaurant Week, we ventured to Leawood for lunch in the sleek, sunny dining room of NoRTH. The meal began with one of our favorite apps in the KC area -- the lighter-than-air Zucca Chips -- and ended with a Sour Cherry Bread Pudding that topped off a dining experience that was anything but, well, sour.

We've been documenting our Restaurant Week meals here on the blog, but we couldn't cover all 100 restaurants in 10 days. That's where you come in.

Many of Restaurant Week's fabulous Facebook fans have been busy uploading photos of their own R-Week dining experiences in the Fan Photos section of our Facebook Page, including snapshots from Hereford House, Skies, La Bodega, and Trezo Vino.

Ruth's Chris During Restaurant Week is as Flawless as Ruth's Chris Any Other Week

Posted on Saturday, January 30th, 2010 | 1 Comments

'Twas a special occasion, so we decided to get all dolled up and venture out to Ruth's Chris for an upscale steakhouse experience last night.

What was the special occasion, you ask? A $30 meal (including a filet mignon!) at Ruth's Chris. Obviously.

18 Hours Later, We're Still Full From Dinner at Prime Rib Grill

Posted on Thursday, January 28th, 2010 | 1 Comments

We suggest you head to Prime Rib Grill by Hereford House for dinner if you enjoy any of the following: prime rib, KC strip steak, mussels, fantastic service, fluffy rolls, massive portions, chocolate mousse, loaded baked 'taters, calamari, or a staggering amount of food for $30. We had a sensational dinner last night -- and, 18 hours later, we're skipping lunch because we're still full.

The Pitch Does Restaurant Week at Michael Smith, The Well

Posted on Thursday, January 28th, 2010 | 0 Comments

The folks behind The Pitch's pleasantly-titled "Fat City" blog have been eating their way through some of Restaurant Week's reasonably-priced lunch menus and blogging about their adventures in gluttony.

So far, they've hit Michael Smith for lunch -- declaring the Spanish taco appetizer a not-to-be-missed experience -- and The Well, where choosing dessert as one of your two courses is, apparently, advised (you're supposed to pick only two of the three courses offered -- and portions are so hefty that taking down all three would be a challenge, anyway).

Last Night's Dinner: Lobster Shepherd's Pie at Julian

Posted on Wednesday, January 27th, 2010 | 0 Comments

We decided to go all the way yesterday and make it our very own "day of James Beard Award winning chefs" -- we'd swung by Michael Smith for lunch and, the moment we felt vaguely hungry again, headed to Julian for dinner.

Indulging in a Multi-Course Meal at Michael Smith -- For Only $15

Posted on Tuesday, January 26th, 2010 | 2 Comments

Alright, Kansas City: we know James Beard Award winning chef Michael Smith's namesake restaurant might qualify as one of those "special occasion" restaurants you don't necessarily visit on a whim any ol' day of the week. But you can make any day this week feel like a special occasion by swinging by Michael Smith for a spectacular, multi-course meal that's actually easy on the wallet -- just $15 for lunch and $30 for dinner.

We dropped in for lunch this afternoon and (somehow) resisted the urge to order a bottle of wine (even though countless bottles of the sweet nectar stared us down as we dined), so our tab came out to just over $30 for two -- for a meal that tasted like it should have run somehere in the three-digit range.

A Light and Lovely Lunch at The Westside Local

Posted on Monday, January 25th, 2010 | 3 Comments

We went full-throttle this weekend with our Restaurant Week meal selections (and we were forced to take yesterday off from dining out to tackle some of the leftovers that had accumulated in the fridge), so we decided to head to a new neighborhood favorite for a meal that was a bit on the lighter side today.

The veggie-heavy menu caught our eye at The Westside Local -- and we figured our tummies could use a few fresh, fabulous greens after a weekend of rich, heavy, indulgent feasting.

The Early Reviews Are In: What You're Saying About Restaurant Week

The much-hyped Sticky Toffee Pudding at Webster House

The first weekend of Kansas City's inaugural Restaurant Week has passed -- and so far, the event has been a resounding success. We've been sharing our own experiences here on the blog, but Kansas Citians across the Internet are chatting about their fabulous meals, too.

Some of the highlights:

Blogger Chris posted a fantastic recap of his first few R-Week meals over at Blog Well Done. After dining at 75th Street Brewery, blanc burgers + bottles, Webster House, and WestChase Grille, he declares 75th Street Brewery’s Duck Confit Salad the "Best. Salad. Ever." and agrees with us that Webster House's Sticky Toffee Pudding is not to be missed.

A Charming Saturday Afternoon Lunch at Webster House

Posted on Sunday, January 24th, 2010 | 0 Comments

Among our favorite Saturday afternoon delights: shopping, eating, enjoying little pieces of KC history, and relaxing with a well-made bloody mary. Among our favorite Saturday afternoon restaurant destinations: Webster House, which gives us the opportunity to indulge in all four of those delights.

After browsing the antiques, gifts, and jewelry on the main floor of the restored 19th century schoolhouse, we headed upstairs to an English country house-esque dining room where we enjoyed....

Salad, Steak, and Dessert for $30 at J. Gilbert's? Yes, Please.

Posted on Saturday, January 23rd, 2010 | 2 Comments

10 oz. Top Sirloin

We ate like kings last night. If we hadn't splurged on beer and wine, the tab for two would have come out to just over $60 -- and it was all for a good cause. Does it get any better than this?

After waiting for a somewhat reasonable amount of time to pass after our huge lunch at Zest yesterday, we headed to Overland Park to indulge in a lavish dinner at J. Gilbert's. The scene was lively at 8:00; the dining room was full but not too loud, there was live music in the bar area, and the warm, cozy atmosphere was a much-appreciated respite from the dreary, rainy weather outside.

And the Most Popular Dessert Item of KC Restaurant Week Is...

Posted on Thursday, January 21st, 2010 | 0 Comments

No need to attempt to quiet your sugar cravings and dramatically wave away the dessert menu this week -- most Restaurant Week dinner menus (and many lunch menus) include a dessert course.

We're seeing some interesting trends in the sweets department, too: this year, it's looking like it will be the battle of the crème brulées and bread puddings across KC. We tallied up the offerings, and the 100 Restaurant Week participants are featuring a total of 17 different crème brulées and 15 bread puddings (with creative flavor twists like white chocolate and banana).
